Happy Valent-... err, Christmas?!? - A X’mas Spirit full of Love!
When you come to Tokyo during the Christmas Season, you might find illuminations round town, you will find decorated trees on roofs and in department stores, and you’ll feel as if you’ve found the same Christmas Spirit like at home.
But oh behold! Because the Christmas air smells a little different in the land of the Rising Sun. In Japan, LOVE IS IN THE AIR on Christmas Eve!
So what, might you think? Isn’t love an essential part of the Christmas Spirit? Oh, yes, it is. But in Japan Christmas Eve is a romantic day for lovebirds and has nothing to do with the Christian holiday at all. The girls are getting all excited about the most romantic day of the year, and the boyfriends are fretting about what to buy and where to go. After all, the date has to be perfect and so does the location.
That said, we started our hunt for romantic Christmas illumination spots round town. After running around Tokyo and seeing all kinds of pretty illuminations, none of them really knocked us off our feet. We were tired and our spirits were slightly low when we finally reached Roppongi’s Midtown, a fashionable and slightly exclusive place to hang out. The trees on the place before entering the Midtown complex were full of blue lights, and it looked a little like a gate to an enchanted forest. Little did I know that the gate would lead me to a place that would literally blow my mind away. We stepped through to the door to the illumination gateway and when the wind blew around my body I felt like I was launched into cosmos. A huge blue stellar sea of lights and whirls and zodiac signs captured all my senses and I had to keep myself from running and just jumping into it.
And even though I couldn’t discover the romance on my journey through Christmassy Tokyo, this was the first time I thought, I wouldn’t mind as much coming to this place with somebody special.
Now all I have to do is find someone I can ask:
“Won’t you dive into Tokyo’s Christmas Cosmos with me?”
